Welcome to Explorations in LiteracyFall 2015

This class has been designed to present you with a unique set of challenges that will push your understandings of what it means to be literate. In many ways, this class is exactly what you would expect: 
<ul><li>there are readings</li><li>there are assignments</li><li>there are due dates</li></ul> 
But in other ways it is probably nothing like you expected. You see, I have designed this class to function like a video game.

Designing this class to function as a video game means means you will have: 
<ul><li>experience points (XP) instead of grades</li><li>opportunities to Level Up</li><li>the ability to earn Achievements and Achievement Points</li><li>the ability to purchase items from our Item Shop</li><li>chances to uncover hidden quests and/or Achievements</li></ul> 
I encourage you to drop your expectations now and be open to the experiences that are ahead. As we progress through the semester, you will also get the opportunity to talk about your experiences in this course and consider what it means to introduce gaming principles into education. All you need to know is in the menu bar on the right hand side of the page. I encourage you to start exploring now and see what you uncover.
