You get lots of different points in this game (I mean, class). Here is a general guideline of how they break down:
(a) Experience Points; Also known as XP: XP are what counts as your grade
(b) Achievement Points: Use achievement points to buy things from the Item Shop
(c) Experience Points + Achievement Points = Leveling Up
That's right. You can level up. You will earn rankings on our Leaderboard based on your XP and your Level. This means you will have two different rankings which could be drastically different depending on how you play the game. Note that when you spend Achievement Points at the Item Shop, your total number of spendable points will drop. However, your score/level will not drop.
For example, let's say that you have 500 XP and 1000 Achievement points for a total of 1500. You are a Level 3 based on the chart below. You then spend all 1000 of your Achievement points on an item from the shop. You have not money left to spend (because XP can't be spent). However, to get to Level 4 you will need to earn an additional 1000 Achievement Points. This means you will never drop down a level when you spend achievement points.
Since achievements will continue to be added throughout the semester, the leveling system will continue to be developed throughout the semester. As you level up, you can earn Skillz. Once you have a Skill, it is yours until you choose to use it. When you wish to use it, simply send me an email. I must have your intention to use a Skill in writing (lahall@email.unc.edu).
