How can I improve myself as a writing instructor? How can I help my students improve their writing?
Heidi
How do I overcome obstacles with my struggling readers to get them reading on grade level when they are not paying attention, have language barriers and are EC?
Cara
What does blogging look like in a second grade classroom? How can I incorporate blogging in a meaningful way and increase my students literacy at the same time? I will be starting a blog in my second grade classroom. We will decide as a class what we want our blog to be about and who we want our audience to be.
Whitney
How can the Lucy Calkins writing units improve my writer's workshop in my third grade classroom?
Matt
I'm having my AP students keep up with weekly public blog posts of their learning experiences, and I'm having my Honors students blog weekly reading journals. In addition, all of my classes have online writing portfolios and online discussion forum prompts. All of this will be potentially accessible by parents, teachers, and others. The question I'm exploring is this: will increased visibility and authenticity of writing -- using technology to make writing "social" for students -- translate to noticeable improvement in writing quality and to increased engagement in writing assignments?
Jordan
What strategies and instructional practices will help my EC students and ELL students improve their basic reading, reading comprehension, and written language levels to be at our above grade level?
Anjali
My school is now considered a global school. I want to research and learn more about Global Read Aloud and how I can incorporate it into my classroom, as well as welcoming other global resources.
Carrie
How can Daily 5 help students become better readers and writers? Does the consistency of the 5 literacy centers really help raise reading levels?
Jenn
I am planning to implement a literacy center in my classroom that focuses on pre-literacy skills. Because we are a play-based school, our centers are mostly open ended and promote literacy skills through play and imagination, so this will be structured differently. I plan to develop several different engaging, hands-on activity trays that the students will use to practice/strengthen their literacy skills.
