During the semester, you will be presented with numerous opportunities to engage in battle with the other MEDX literacy cohort. Participating in the battles is optional. Participating in battles does not help your grade, and not participating will not hurt your grade. The Lit. Master typically announces battles.

You will receive Achievement points for participating in the battle, and you must do exactly what the battle instructions say in order to receive the points. Each battle will have a winner and a loser, and sometimes extra achievement points may be offered for being the winner. At the end of the semester, the cohort with the most achievement points earned in battle will be the ultimate victor.

Raids & Defense
In addition to participating in battles, you may individually choose to raid the other cohort. When you raid the other cohort, you are attempting to steal achievement points they have won in battle. It works like this:
  • You must have earned the skill to participate in a raid (starts at Level 20)
  • You conduct raids entirely alone, but your spoils benefit the cohort's total number of battle achievement points
  • You must declare to me, in writing, that you wish to conduct a raid
  • I will announce to the other cohort that a raid is planned
  • If someone in the defending cohort wants and is able to, that person may launch a defense
  • The defending cohort always has a time limit on when a defense must be put in place (typically 24-48 hours)
  • When raiding, you (or I) will roll a single die. The number that comes up (1-6) will be multiplied by 1000. If no defense is in place, you then take the resulting figure from the other cohort's battle achievement points and add it to your own
  • If a defense is in place, we modify the number appropriately
  • All raids are video recorded to share with the cohorts - particularly the one who is being raided.

A few notes:
  1. When you participate in a battle, you earn achievement points for yourself and your cohort. While total number of points can be lost due to a raid, you will never lose your individual achievement points
  2. Once you decide a raid is going to be launched you cannot change your mind. You will never know if a cohort is capable of defending itself or will choose to do so.
  3. If we do the raid in class or if I do it myself will be decided based on the course calendar and what is easiest.
  4. If you roll and get more points than a cohort has, you wipe them down to zero.
